Now i always take a before shot on trucks that i record. So heres the before on Harman Trucking. Now we took pretty much the entire bottom of this truck apart so we could polish it professionally. Theres companies out there that wont take that apart and it looks half *** not to mention they will smudge the paint with the buffer and you cant replace that unless u get it painted again. I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 with the 20" aluminum rims. They look terrible no shine watsoever. Is their any kind of polish or something to make them as shiny as a mirror…any good brands or solutions?

Has anybody tried such a thing? I did some internet research and I found good instructions for repainting motorcycles to a supergloss finish, repainting computers with mirror finish but never wood. so far the process entails priming, sanding a bit, use a tack cloth, spray high gloss enamel in black. Wait 2 weeks and begin sanding starting with 400 grit and working the project up to 2000 grit. Use a car polisher and rubbing compound, wait 2 weeks and use a paste wax. I would like to decorate the black laquer with gold leaf just in some places and I am trying to figure out when I would apply the leaf. The leaf takes glue and would make the finish dull after all that work. I was thinking of putting the leaf on then a clear laquer spray. Then sanding and polishing the whole thing with the gold leaf right from the beginning. Essentially I would be finishing the clear laquer. Would it still come up to a mirror finish? Would this work?

If you’re going to clear coat it, then you don’t need to sand it with 2000 grit paper. 600 grit is more than good enough. Gold leaf it, clear coat it, and then sand the clear coat to 2000 grit, and wax the clear coat to a super high gloss finish.

Do not wax before gold leafing or clear coating. Neither adheres to wax.

This is a long way from the traditional system which involved slowly building up different colors in elaborate patterns and sanding them down to reveal even more elaborate patterns, in a system which could take a month or more of continual lacquering, sanding and buffing.

I got my aluminum motorcycle engine covers buffed a week ago , but I find,some white spots forming on them I was told by the shop the aluminum is ageing or the previous owner may have got them duped in acid for cleaning . My,question is how do I stop those white spots from forming ? I am not sure painting 2K lacqure over it may cause more problems trying to maintaining the lacqure without getting it scratched, WD40 can take the polished gloss away? they may have been washed previously with a detergent , the caustic attacks aluminium .all i can suggest if you can take the covers off and place them in boiling water, it may seep into the scars and stop further spotting , also age comes into it as well , the air we have today can attack some metals more than others, copper , silver and brass are some examples . lacquer will extend the life for sure

1994 Ninja 500 with brand new $200 helmet (which I’d probably try to sell)

The good: approx 6,300 miles, very clean and apparently well maintained (don’t know right now what might be available as far as service records & much of it was done by the first two owners themselves), no general rust other than minimal surface rust at exhaust attachment points & none inside original tank, brand new rear tire, 50% tread on front, brakes in good shape, no apparent leaks including fork seals, paint is glossy and seat cover is subtle, the sprockets and chain supposedly are nearly brand new (haven’t done any verification). I test drove it and it revs and shifts fine but idles a bit low/rough (it’s currently located at an elevation above where it was supposedly tuned up so the air pressure/thickness I imagine does affect it. It’s enough of a difference to make your ears pop a bit)

The bad:

It went down once. The right front turn signal broke out of the fairing & had to be epoxied back into place. The turn signal is quite scraped up. The corner of the upper fairing right by the turn signal got ground down pretty good and is now flat rather than pointy. The right muffler also got scraped up really good. The left muffler is covered with some molten boot sole (I’ve previously been able to polish that kinda stuff off of chrome exhaust piping so perhaps it’ll work on this, too)

The Blue Book value is $1425 in excellent shape with significantly more miles. At such an already low value, how much do the low miles add and how much does the cosmetic condition take away from that price? I offered $1000 and was told $1200 is the max they’d take because supposedly that’s what they bought it for just a couple of months ago (changed mind on motorcycle riding). The bike’s been listed for about 2 weeks and the only other option they currently have is a guy who wants to pay $500 down and then make payments (they would only go for a $900 down payment from the guy).
I meant "$1200 is the least they’d take" of course.
No, the husband doesn’t want his wife to ride it after all because he nearly got into an accident while riding it.

The project is an old fire truck, covered in aluminum diamond plate. There’s some light white-like tanishing going on, but the diamonds are smoothed out from 30+ years of firefighters polishing it regularly — but the rig has been outside for the past 18 months before coming to me.
