How can you polish plastic?

I bought a gift today that came in a plastic package but the plastic looks very dull. Is there any way to polish it to make it look shiny?

You could put a layer of polyurethane on it.

ahhh..no…if it's just the package, why does it need to be shiny ??? re-wrap it if it needs to look better.
