can i use silver polish to polish stainless steel?

I’ve got this stainless steel necklace, but it’s got some scratches on it. I’ve tried looking for stuff that polishes jewelery, but i could only find silver polish. Will that do? Especially since i want to remove some scratches on the necklace (its not very deep scratches).
