My dad just passed away and I have to sell his motorcycle so I can save my house from foreclosure, he built this motorcycle by himself and the guy who wants to buy it wants the model number, but I don’t know if it has one. Is there any way to figure it out? I don’t have the title yet, it’s being sent to me but he wants to buy it probably before I get it. Thanks for any advice in advance!
Sorry for your loss. I think the gentleman wants the V.I.N. number, if its a custom frame & doesn’t have one on the frames neck then look at the left side of the engine case if you were sitting on the bike. Don’t just sell your dads bike without finding out its value because people SOMETIMES take advatage of situations like this, not saying this guy would, but please be careful, that was your dads labor of love. P.S. the vin number will tell make, year, model of the bike.

Sounds like he wants to know the type of engine fitted or the engine number, which will hopefully give the make & CC. Should be stamped on it somewhere.
Get someone who knows about bikes to check it out, so you don’t get ripped off.

The bike may not have a model number at all. Why not? Because the frame might be from a 1971 Wide Glide and the engine from a 1962 Pan Head. Buuuuut, I’ll bet it has a VIN number on the frame. Check the registration, the Vehicle Identification Number should be there. I agree with the other Yahoo! Answer that you should have it checked by a mechanic to see for yourself what it might be worth. This might cost you $50 up front, but will put you in a much stronger bargaining position. When you KNOW what you’ve got, it can make a huge difference in the value of the bike. Compare the two fictitious ads below.

There`s a VIN number on the registration and the title. The bike is a special construction. You`ll be responsible for it until you sign the title and send the release forms in.
